Evaluation of the Corner Theatre Troupe/Peer Education Project

at The Center for Applied Research & Evaluation

In 2008, CARE conducted an evaluation study of the Corner Health Center’s Theatre Troupe/Peer Education Project.   This project aims to prevent substance use among middle school youth through peer education.  The evaluation involved an analysis which compared the results of pre- and post-tests of youth who participated in the program (experimental group) and a similar group of students who did not (control group).  In 2010, the program study design, evaluation design and evaluation results were reviewed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) National Registry for Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP).  As a result the study is now included in the NREPP as a model program of substance abuse intervention.
