CENTER FOR COMMUNITY BUILDING AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

STRENGTHENING ORGANIZATIONS, BUILDING COMMUNITIES(SOBC)

This project, funded through a grant from the Department of Justice, includes two programs in Detroit and Ypsilanti that were developed in partnership with the Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit, and the Corner Health Center in Ypsilanti. The purpose of these two programs is to assist with the prevention and reduction of juvenile crime and violence, particularly among the culturally diverse youth of southeast Michigan. The program in Detroit delivers educational workshops to female youth, and aims at building healthy, safe behaviors and a strong character in young ladies. The program in Ypsilanti focuses on the prevention of alcohol use, drug use and the consequent violence utilizing theatre as the medium to provide youth with insight, effective communication, and positive behaviors, coping, and resistance skills
