INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF CHILDREN, FAMILIES & COMMUNITIES
CENTER FOR CHILD AND FAMILY PROGRAMS (Formerly, The National Foster Care Resource Center)
The Center for Child and Family Programs has replaced the National Foster Care Resource Center at the Institute. While we maintain a strong commitment to child welfare and foster care, we have broadened our focus to reflect diverse community needs as well as children and youth in crisis.
Goals
The goals of the Center for Child and Family Programs are to enhance the lives of vulnerable children and families and to shape local, state, and national policies by working with public and private agencies to:
• Conduct research about vulnerable children and families
• Demonstrate new models of service
• Develop training curricula
• Provide training and technical assistance
• Conduct program evaluations
• Develop policy recommendations
Our current focus is on:
• Children and families within the child welfare system
• Children and families with mental health needs
• Women and children living in poverty
• Access to child care for low-income families
• Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth and their families
• Marginalized children and youth: "zero-tolerance" in schools and preschools
• Juvenile justice
Currently available through the Center for Child and Family Programs are Training Manuals on:
• Foster Care
• Independent Living
• Kinship Care
